It is finally raining after the long, very hot, dry summer. Naturally, this is the day that I made an appointment to have my car's oil changed and walk the quarter mile to my workplace! And more so, we are heading to the beach for the Labor Day week!
Today is Father Beirschmitt's funeral. I have taken time from work to go. Two weeks ago, my uncle's funeral and now this. Neither man was really close to me at this point in my life, so the sense of loss is small; Rather an increased awareness of the baton passing, my own aging, the sensation of time slipping like sand through my fingers. It is also a time to reconnect with people from the past, a time when these men played a more significant part in my life.
Plans to attend the funeral today led to problems with my car dropoff at the gas station. They couldn't have it ready by the time I have to leave, so I will drop it off at 1:00 pm instead. The mechanic promised it would be ready at 4:00. We shall see.
